The goal is not one dramatic first meeting. The goal is a sequence: separate spaces, scent, visual contact, short shared-room practice, enough resources and clear signs that the process should slow down.

Where are you in the introduction process?
Pick the current stage before reading deeper. The next useful action changes depending on whether the animals are still separated, smelling each other calmly, seeing each other, meeting briefly or sharing a home with resource tension.
Use this when
Before bringing a second cat home, during the closed-door stage, or when tension appears before face-to-face meetings.
If scent swapping is calm, the next action is controlled visual contact. If visual contact is tense, the next action is not a longer meeting; it is a slower stage and a better resource map.
The complete introduction sequence
Prepare separate spaces
Each animal gets food, water, litter or potty access, rest, hiding and a door or barrier that prevents surprise contact.
Exchange scent before contact
Swap bedding, cloths or safe room scent while keeping meetings calm and short.
Begin visual contact
Use a door crack, gate or carrier-safe distance only when scent and sound are boring enough.
Run short shared-room meetings
Keep early meetings brief, supervised and easy to end; reward calm disengagement more than forced greeting.
Arrange shared-home resources
Add enough litter, food, water, scratch, rest and escape routes so sharing the home does not mean competing.
Slow down when needed
Step back if there is stalking, blocking, hiding, panic, repeated swatting, growling that escalates, appetite change or litter change.
